The archive’s guides share a simple sequence. Start with a question. Gather a small set of primary and secondary sources. Record observations before interpretation. Compare the clues that agree, the ones that do not, and the limits of what survives.
This method applies across a song arrangement, a touring programme, a session sheet and a record shelf. The subject changes, but the discipline remains: name the object, place the observation, describe the confidence and leave the next reader enough detail to follow the path.
